About the Role

This role will be responsible for all scientific aspects of cannabinoids – from plant to API to final product concept. Acting as the go-to person and advocate, this role requires someone with an advanced scientific background and who is an expert in the field of cannabinoid biology and the endocannabinoid system. The role is critical in advancing the knowledge and application of differentiated cannabinoid products in the healthcare and wellness space and will collaborate with cross functional teams to share best practices and insights.

Cannabinoids have shown promise in healthcare, but there is a huge need for science-backed products and standards. Our ambition is to be a world leader in developing safe and effective cannabinoid products to meet significant unmet medical need – The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering on this ambition.


About You

• You will have an up to date understanding of global cannabinoid / medical cannabis research and ideally would be networked with fellow leaders in the field. You maintain an in-depth cannabinoid disease area and translational knowledge including pharmacology.
• You have a deep understanding of scientific principles, methodologies, and terminology, and are able to communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support continuous education of the emerging science within the company and in the external environment.
• You will have established and conducted translational science investigation with cannabinoid based formulations.
• You will provide evidence based scientific leadership to determine and oversee scientific investigations for differentiated cannabinoid product development programs.
• You will develop and maintain relationships with the appropriate professional organizations to guide the development of product assessment standards
• Scientific fields are constantly evolving. You should be innovative and adaptable, willing to embrace new methodology and have a passion for scientific knowledge sharing.
• Aligning with the organization's goals, you should have a strategic mindset to align scientific efforts with the broader mission and vision of the organization.


Qualifications / Experience

• Should be a PhD in a life sciences field such as pharmacology, biology, biochemistry, with strong focus on Cannabinoids.
• 5+ years’ experience at a senior scientific leadership level and extensive knowledge of cannabinoid science. Ideally, 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry including expertise in regulatory strategy.
• NOTE: Entrepreneurial Academics may also be considered that have demonstrable experience in exploiting their knowledge of cannabinoid / medical cannabis in commercial opportunities (for example, by acting as CSO for a cannabinoid product start-up).
• Excellent communication (written, oral and presentation) skills to convey scientific information to various audiences. They will also be expected to present scientific data and strategies to executive leaderships and health authorities.
• Ability to interpret preclinical and clinical data and assess product potential and identifies gaps and next steps. They should also be able to balance this with consumer & marketing insights from other stakeholders.
• Strong experience in quality control and assurance processes to maintain high standards in product quality.
• Demonstrated experience in leading external Innovation projects with academic centers.
• As the role will oversee research activities undertaken by the company in cannabinoid / medical cannabis space the incumbent is expected to have experience in cross functional team leadership, defining project goals and milestones.
• Solid understanding of and adherence to regulations and compliance standards, ethical considerations for human research, which are pertinent to the medical cannabis product development efforts.
